- NOTES ON FLUSHOT3:
-
- FLUSHOT3 is an enhancement to FLUSHOT2. A bug was fixed which could have
- caused certain weird things when you denied direct disk I/O to certain
- portions of DOS 3.x. This has been fixed.
-
- Please read this next note carefully:
- SIMPLY BECAUSE THE FORMAT COMMAND, OR A DISK REPAIR UTILITY, OR SOME
- OTHER LOW-LEVEL DISK PROGRAM TRIGGERS FLUSHOT, IT DOESN'T MEAN THAT
- YOUR DISK IS INFECTED! SOME PROGRAMS LEGITIMATELY HAVE THE NEED TO
- DO SOME LOW-LEVEL WORK!
-
- This means that when you do a "COPY *.* B:" or something and cause a new
- COMMAND.COM to be created on your B: drive, FLUSHOT will be triggered. It
- does not mean that you should suddenly call me up at 3 am to ask a very
- groggy person what to do next. You might not like the answer you get! :-)
-
- The enhancements to FLUSHOT3 include the ability to enter a 'g' when FLUSHOT
- is triggered. This will cause FLUSHOT to become inactive until an exit is
- called by the foreground task. So, when you use some trustworthy program
- which does direct disk I/O, you won't be pestered with constant triggering
- after you enter the 'g'.
-
- Additionally, your CMOS ROM is checked upon every DOS operation against
- the original value it had when you first ran FLUSHOT. If there is a
- difference, you'll be advised, and have the option to restore the original
- CMOS memory.
-
- What the heck is CMOS memory, you might be asking. Good question. In AT
- class and beter machines, certain important parameters (such as the type of
- hard disk you're using, or how much memory there is in your machine) are
- stored up in special non-volitile memory, called CMOS.
-
- If this gets changed, you might have a problem when you reboot. FLUSHOT3
- sends at least one little slimebucket back to the drawing board, because
- it will restore the CMOS and prevent this hassle from occuring.
-
- Additionally, you now have some options in FLUSHOT3:
-
- FLUSHOT3 [-D][-F][-C]
-
- -D - Do not monitor direct disk writes (int26)
- -F - Do not monitor direct floppy writes (int13)
- -C - *Do* check CMOS - AT class and better only
- the default installation does *not* check CMOS
-
- As in the other FLUSHOT programs, please be sure to upload any suspect
- programs to my board at (212)-889-6438 (24 hr, 2400/120/300 N81), as well
- as any suggestions, enhancements or bug reports. You can also reach me
- on BIX as 'greenber'.
